If you’re new to the world of tabletop role-playing games and you want to create your first character to jump into the adventures of the Dragonbond Setting, the sheer number of options can be daunting.

Don’t worry, we’re here to help. In this blog post, we’ll give you five tips that will make you a better TTRPG player, no matter what game you’re playing. So grab your dice and your character sheet, it’s time to get started!

1. Read the manual (or at least skim It)

We know, we know. manuals are big and boring and who has time to read them anyway? But trust us on this one, a little bit of prep work will go a long way towards making your TTRPG experience more enjoyable. At the very least, skim the manual so that you have a basic understanding of how the game works. That way, when things come up during gameplay, you’ll at least have some context for what’s going on.

2. Create a believable character

One of the best things about TTRPGs is that they allow you to step into another person’s shoes and experience the world from their perspective. So make sure you create a character that is interesting and believable. Give them flaws and weaknesses as well as strengths and skills. The more complex and well-rounded your character is, the more fun you’ll have playing them.

3. Don’t be afraid to experiment

TTRPGs are all about taking risks and trying new things. So don’t be afraid to experiment with your character or try out different strategies during gameplay. The worst that can happen is that you’ll learn something new or have a story to tell about that one time when your plan went horribly wrong. Either way, you’ll be better for it in the end.

4. Be respectful of other players

TTRPGs are meant to be enjoyed by everyone involved so make sure you’re respecting other players’ time and effort. That means showing up on time and being prepared for each session as well as being respectful of other people’s opinions and ideas. If everyone is having fun, then everyone wins!

5. Have fun!

At the end of the day, TTRPGs are meant to be enjoyed so make sure you’re having fun! Try not to take things too seriously and roll with the punches when things don’t go your way. After all, it’s just a game!
